Cuba City Guide – Moron and Its Historical Rooster

The history of the Rooster of Moron is almost 500 years old and comes from the Spanish town of Moron de la Frontera where a corrupted judge was undressed and battered by the villagers due to his innumerable violations. Some days later, the image of a beaten and plucked rooster appeared in the town, as a sign of those trying to act the tough guys. Some Spaniards from that region migrated to Cuba and the story came along with them, finding a place to stay with the foundation in 1543 of a small town in the area of the ranch Moron, whose owner was Don Luis Alameda.

The Spanish and Cubans took the rooster as a symbol of the first basements of the township and even sang the stanza “be careful that you are now looking as the rooster of Moron, plucked and crowing, at your best”. However, the Cubans did not want a plucked rooster and with the passing of time, they turned the rooster into a Cuban fighting cock, and even erected a bronze monument in the current Park of the Rooster, inaugurated on September 11, 1955 with the presence of the dictator Fulgencio Batista. In 1960, an official of the Rebel Army, distrustful of the participation of Batista, ordered to remove it and the people of Moron rebelled and restored the rooster to its place. With all these happenings, the original rooster was destroyed and in 1982 a new sculpture, by the artists Rita Longa and Armando Alonso, was erected. The new rooster has as a basis a wooden log; it is a brave fighting cock. Next to it, a tower-clock reproduces the rooster’s singing for the whole town each morning.

The area has been devoted to agriculture and cattle-raising, especially to the cultivation of sugar cane and pineapple, and the raising of cattle, horses and mules. The cattle and horses raised near the island of Turiguanó are famous. It is even possible to convince the locals to take you to the horse races or cock fights (both illegal in Cuba) that usually take place on Sundays in the boundary strips or intricate areas of Moron.

Romantic City Guide – San Francisco- Bay Area

When anybody comes to a new city for a vacation, the first thing that they want to do is see the city and take in all the sights and sounds it has to offer. In the case of San Francisco, there are a number of world famous tourist attractions, such as the Golden Gate Bridge or the Alcatraz Prison (maybe not the most romantic spot, but a very interesting visit regardless) that you should take the time to see. A must stop location for all couples who visit the city is Fisherman’s Wharf. The area is the number one travel destination for those looking to relax in a lively atmosphere filled with street music and entertainment, shopping, and casual dining. A walk along the Wharf and the various piers during sunset is one of the most romantic things you can do in the city. Also, be sure to take a ride in the cable cars that will help you get anywhere you need to go around the city quickly. These cable cars cannot be found anywhere else in the world.

When in the Bay Area, no trip is complete without taking the time to visit the Golden Gate Bridge. The bridge features a parking lot-many couples will park and take a long walk along the sidewalks. If you do plan on walking the bridge, be sure to bring a jacket as it is often colder and much windier on the bridge, than it is in the city. There are also a good number of both biking and walking tours that will take you around the city and across the Golden Gate Bridge.

There is a lot to do and see, but the whole environment is laid back and the weather is just perfect all year round, so be sure to spend a lot of your time outdoors just walking through the city, resting on one of the area’s many sandy beaches, or taking in the sites and sounds San Francisco has to offer.
