Air Travel Restrictions

A lot of people are either traveling for the first time, or maybe you haven’t traveled in a while. You’re probably going to have a lot of questions, when it comes down to airline restrictions, and traveling, and that’s okay. If this sounds like you, I wanted to give you a quick cheat sheet at what’s allowed, and what’s not.

Use your head – The first thing that you want to do is just simply use your head. If you’re thinking that you may be able to bring it or not, just sit back, and ask yourself if you need it. If you need it, then you may want to look more into it. If you really don’t need it, just bail on it.

Know your liquids – A lot of people do this, but you need to know that you can’t bring more than 3 ounces per liquid, and they can’t fill up more than a Ziploc bag. I highly recommend that you just throw all of your liquids in the check in, if you’re going to check your bags in.

There are a lot of rules and regulations when it comes to the airlines, but I what I highly recommend is that you head to the TSA’s website. There you’re going to find a whole list of everything that you can’t bring on board. Now, remember, just because you can’t bring it on board, doesn’t mean that you can’t check it in. These types of list will be able to tell you exactly what you can, and can’t do.

The last step that you should do is you do start to wonder if you can/can’t bring it is to simply call up the airlines.

Lanzarote Holidays: Relax In An Exotic Land

What do you get when you combine ancient volcanoes, stunning rock formations, fabulous weather and great beaches? You get an idea of what it’s like on the island of Lanzarote in the Canary Islands.

Lanzarote is the fourth largest and easternmost in the nine island chain situated off the northwest coast of Africa. Although they are about 1,000 kilometers removed from the Iberian Peninsula, the Canary Islands are ruled by Spain and almost 75% of Lanzarote’s residents are Spanish citizens. The lingua franca is Spanish, but the landscape appears as if it’s from some other planet. This makes Canary Islands holidays a unique experience.

Lanzarote is an island of volcanic origin just like the rest of the Canary Islands. Its landscape is dominated by remnants of past volcanic activity. The most prominent feature on the island is the Tunnel of Atlantis, the largest submerged volcanic tunnel on the planet. It is part of a landscape dominated by hardened lava flows. In parts of the island the ground is still hot almost three hundred years after the last volcanic eruption on Lanzarote. On Montanas del Fuego the temperature just below the surface is near 400 degrees. It is so hot, a cup of water turns to steam instantly on contact.

There are only 35 types of land animals roaming the stark landscape. One of them is the dromedary or single humped camel. Formally used by farmers, it is now a tourist attraction. There is also the Atlantic lizard and the Canary Island wall lizard. The most famous animal on Lanzarote is the ‘jameito’ or blind albino crab found in the salt water tubes at Jameos del Agua on the northern end of the island. Birders have identified over fifty species of birds that frequent Lanzarote. Among them are the African Grey Parrot, Spanish Sparrow, Collard Dove, Hoopoe, Cream Colored Coarser, Egret and the Grey Heron. There are also rare birds like the Barbary Falcon.

There are a surprising number of great beaches on the island of Lanzarote. Lanzarote holidays include the chance to swim, windsurf, kitesurf and water surf or just lay in the shade of a coconut tree on a beach with golden sand and sway in a hammock as the Trade Winds gently rocks you to sleep. When Your Honey Hates the Holidays

I love the holidays. I love the aromas, the shopping, throwing holiday cocktail parties, and I have a long-standing competition with my sister to see who can find the oddest and grossest gifts for the nieces and nephews.

Guys seem to have less affection for Christmas than women do, but I also have girlfriends who dread the holiday season and would prefer to chuck it all for a week at a sunny spa.

It’s particularly difficult to keep your spirits up when your romantic partner dreads, fears, and detests the holiday season. But try to understand his (or her) point of view. Some kids grew up in families who viewed the holidays as a stressful drain on financial resources. For others, their clearest memories may be of adults engaging in unusually heavy drinking, arguments, and family conflict. Women in particular find themselves in an endless loop of Martha Stewart expectations, stress, and overextended activity.

The best way to enjoy the holidays if you live with a Grinch is to keep it simple. Give yourself time and space to enjoy your preparations. Start your Christmas shopping early. Get those packages delivered or dropped off way ahead of time, and then kick back with some soothing carols and a warm noggin. Meanwhile, here are some tips for dealing with your Grinch.

1. Don’t force your honey to participate.

Ask him if he’d like to join in, but don’t be disappointed or surprised if he’s not interested in cookie baking, gift wrapping, shopping, decorating the tree, and going to parties. If Christmas music and a hot buttered rum aren’t enough cheer for you while you’re enjoying your preparations, ask a few friends over to help. Keep it to just one or two close friends, and hold your decorating/baking/wrapping party in a separate room where you won’t intrude on his privacy or the football game. Odds are high that if you’re quietly giggling and having fun he’ll wander in to see what’s going on. Men are like horses that way-they love to be lured.

2. Mrs. Claus is busy with her own Christmas preparations.

If your man has kids or family he would normally shop for, don’t offer to take on his responsibilities as well as your own. If you have stepchildren, buy them each a gift from you, something not too expensive, but that demonstrates you know their tastes and value their friendship. If all they get from their dad is money-in-a-card, so be it. Don’t gild the apple; they gotta learn to love him the way he is.

If you have a long-standing relationship, and you want to buy a token for your in-laws, go right ahead. If you can afford a few extra items for last minute gifts, maybe get a potted bulb kit, a bestselling book, or some nice photo frames. Then if it becomes a last minute issue, you can just say, shall we give them this from both of us?

I’ve found it works well to write down ideas for his family when they occur to me while I’m shopping online. If he gets stuck for ideas, I offer some suggestions. It’s up to him after that.

3. Don’t take on more Christmas activity than you can do yourself and still have fun.

Whether it’s decorating the tree, throwing a party, shopping, wrapping, or sending cards–schedule your Christmas projects just as you would if you were single and having fun.

Keep the tree at a height you can manage yourself. Those family photo cards that he always complains about posing for in June? Schedule the family pets for the next one. If you can’t plan a holiday cocktail party without him skewing the guest list or micro-managing, then just rent a hotel room, and invite some girlfriends to join you for a stocking-stuffer sleepover and a respite from Christmas stress.

4. Rent-A-Elf.

Personal shoppers are easier to find than you think. Look close to home. Teenagers love to drive. Hand them a list of stops and specific items to pick up, and pay a fee per errand, with a tip for coming in early and under budget. Do a friend shop-swap. You’ll pick up something for her if she’ll pick up something for you. Parents and grandparents are useful online researchers, too. I was about to buy my first webcam for Skype-ing this week, and my 80-year-old father said, “no, don’t buy that, I’ll send you a better model.” Who knew?

5. Treat yourself.

The best gift you can give your Grinch is a little pampering. First, let him see you taking time out for yourself-warm cookies and a sappy novel, a hot noggin and carols while you leisurely decorate the tree, go caroling with friends and come home with bright cheeks and a sparkle in your eye. If you are relaxed and enjoying the holiday, then he’ll begin to relax and enjoy you. Offer him a peppermint foot scrub, or a tangerine-clove oil massage. Who knows? Maybe he’d even like to join you in a candy-cane-scented bubble bath.
